Cozumel Dune Buggy Snorkel and Chankanaab Park
Explore the island of Cozumel and discover its rich history, culture and natural jewels. This amazing tour allows you to drive through Cozumel and see what was once a hiding place for pirates, a sacred Mayan site, and its current liveliness in addition to snorkeling in the world’s second-largest coral reef in the beauty of Chankanaab Park. This is the tour of a true paradisiacal dream Caribbean vacation!
We’ll pick you up in one of our Dune Buggies and we will welcome you and take you around the island as you enjoy the amazing views of Cozumel as you learn about the island’s history. The first stop will be the 201st Air Fighter Squadron, a military base that was used in WWII by the United States for oil, equipment, and men. Did you know that Mexico and Brazil were the only two Latin American countries to send troops overseas in WWII?
But Cozumel was an important point of departure even before the war. Pirates used the island as a base for their operations and found the perfect hideout in this paradise. Before the arrival of the pirates, the ancient Maya considered Cozumel a place of pilgrimage where they honored the goddess of fertility Ixchel. Her temple is located in the last stop of the tour, Chankanaab Park.
Meaning “little sea”, Chankanaab is located in Cozumel’s National Marine Park, a snorkeler’s paradise. You’ll be able to snorkel here and admire schools of tropical fishes, reef, and underwater statues. Taste hand-made tortillas at the Mayan casita and enjoy all the other activities Chankanaab has to offer. After Chankanaab, we’ll return downtown for some shopping time before ending the tour.
